おやくごめん【御役御免】

〔免職〕 dismissal; firing; 《口》 the axe; 〔解放〕 reprieve [release] 《from an onerous job or assignment》.

●戦艦ミズーリは湾岸戦争への出動を最後にお役ご免となった. After its foray into the Gulf War, the USS Missouri was retired from active service.

・勤続 40 年, そろそろこのあたりでお役ご免と願いたいところだ. After forty years on the job, it's (about) time for me to set down the load. | After forty years in harness, it's (about) time I got sent out to pasture.

●署長は部下の監督不行き届きということでお役ご免になった. The police chief was relieved from his post for failure to oversee the actions of his subordinates.
